Who we are

Originally from the West Coast, Paul Toutant has had a varied & extensive career in the music industry.
He was fortunate enough to begin playing professionally at the age of sixteen & continued to do so until recently. After completing his studies at the University of Victoria, he soon made his way to the Calgary area, where he has been based since 1993.
In his over 30 years of performing  & teaching experience, he has had the privilege to play with some of the finest musicians. Groups he has performed with include: the Red Deer Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Pacific Opera, Prime Time Big Band as well as countless other freelance engagements.
He has also enjoyed teaching in both group & private settings, in person & virtually,  students of all ages & abilities. Add to that his over 25 years experience as an instrument repair technician, it is easy to see why he is in demand.
He started Tooter’s Brassworks as he sees a need for good repairs at a reasonable price as well as doing custom work, coming from the unique perspective as a performer as well. Being able to assist players of all levels is something he has always striven for, both on the physical instrument as well as a balanced approach to playing.
Eager to help those who have a technical problem with the instrument or need some playing tips & advice, Paul is more than willing to help out.
